Classes
A commitment to education is at the root of the Clayworks mission.
Clayworks offers the following classes:
Beginner/Intermediate
When: Monday nights 6-9 p.m., 10 sessions.
(offered each season, Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall)
Where: Clayworks in Brattleboro
Cost:$250 + materials
Instructor: Alan Steinberg
Basic wheel and hand-building techniques, glazing, firing in high-fire and pit-fire kilns will be covered. Beginning students will be introduced to plate, bowl, and cylindrical forms on the wheel, and hand-building techniques such as pinching, coiling, and a variety of slab-building approaches. Intermediates will get a chance to take their skills and individual interests further. Each week there will be several demonstrations both in hand-building and wheel techniques, however students are encouraged to follow their own curiosity. At the end of the semester, when the pots come out of the kiln, we gather for a celebratory pot-luck dinner, and eat from our own creations. In addition to class hours students may come in to practice on their own Fridays and Saturdays from 10-5.
