Ever since starting with clay I have been drawn to make large work.  I love the way a substantial pot emanates its presence and lays claim to its place in the world, and I enjoy the process and physicality of creating a piece that relates with me on equal footing.

But my foremost concern is the mystery of shapes and how they engage the viewer.  Why does this particular curve evoke delight, while a similar curve leaves one unmoved, or moved in a subtly different direction?  Why does a certain volume speak to the gut, while another speaks to the mind?  How is it that contemplating or holding (or making) a pot can alter one’s experience of the world?  Inscrutables such as these urge me on.  Every piece is an exploration.
