Clayworks offers the following classes:

Wheel-Throwing Intermediate Level

When: Monday nights 6-9 p.m., October 4th through December 14th
Where: Clayworks in Brattleboro
Cost: $275 + materials

Of note: Limited to six spaces. Includes free practice time Fridays and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During the ten-week class, we will be exploring forms on the wheel such as plates, teapots, sectional vessels, and altered pieces. Students need to have some basic wheel-throwing skills. .

 

Handbuilding & Sculpture Winter 2011

When: Wednesday eve. 6-9 p.m. 10 weeks. Starts January 26 Includes: Free practice Fri. & Sat, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Course covers basic hand-building techniques, glazing, firing in high-fire and pit-fire kilns . Hand-building techniques such as pinching, coiling, working solid, and a variety of slab-building approaches are included. Intermediates will get a chance to take their skills and individual interests further. Each week there will be several demonstrations in hand-building techniques then students are encouraged to follow their own curiosity.

Ceramics I

When: Wednesday nights 6-9 p.m., 15 sessions. Offered Fall.
Where: Clayworks in Brattleboro

Instructor: Alan Steinberg Full-time artist & teacher Since 1968

Basic wheel and hand-building techniques, glazing, firing in high-fire and pit-fire kilns will be covered. Beginning students will be introduced to plate, bowl, and cylindrical forms on the wheel, and hand-building techniques such as pinching, coiling, and a variety of slab-building approaches.. Each week there will be several demonstrations both in hand-building and wheel techniques, plus students are encouraged to follow their own curiosity. At the end of the semester, when the pots come out of the kiln, we gather for a celebratory pot-luck dinner, and eat from our own creations. In addition to class hours students are required to come in to practice on their own Fridays & Saturdays from 10-5.

 

Clay for Kids

When: Tuesdays September -14 and running until October 19th 4:00-5:30 pm
Where: Clayworks in Brattleboro
Cost: $145 - all materials included

Come and create with clay! IN this 6 week session we will focus on handbuilding techniques, sculptural pieces including masks and plaques and possible exploration of the wheel. Finished pieces will be glazed and high fired.
